Dressing Up Disposable Cameras
by Karyn Berry - K1126B@aol.com
I think the idea of disposable cameras on each table is a great idea, but I was very discouraged by the $10 or more price tags to get the ones decorated for weddings!! So, I customized my own!
I watched for them to be on sale at Wal-Mart, K-Mart, local drug store. I ended up getting package of 4 flash cameras for $11.99 ($3 each!).
I bought some paper stock. Could be solid, but mine was sort of a smokey/marble finish. I took one of the cardboard covers off of a camera and used it as a template to trace them on the paper stock (got 2/sheet). I used an exacto-knife to cut them out of the paper stock.
I used gold embossing to decorate mine, but I had a lot of the supplies (i.e. the heat gun) already, so it wasn't an investment. Any sort of decorating would work, such as stamping, etc. I embossed an E (my new monogram), on the lower front, and a small flower in the upper corner on the front. I embossed a "Thank you" and another flower on the back, and a flower on the side.
Then I folded (a scorer would have been great, but I didn't have one) the new cover, and attached with hot glue (or rubber cement).
Not only do I have a lovely wedding themed disposable cameras, but they're also VERY personal! And each one cost less than $4! That's a fraction of the cost!
And, of course, most importantly, they were fun to make!
